Winner of the 2008 Vick Prize Bulgarian Novel of the Year
Photo Stoyanovich by Evgenia Ivanova is the fifth winner of the Bulgarian Novel of the Year competition organized by the VICK Foundation.
On 27 October at the Sheraton Hotel, the prize was presented by Mr. Edward Vick at the annual award ceremony.
Emerging from another five novels, Ivanova’s work was selected by a competent jury composing of: European Commissioner Meglena Kouneva, Prof. Boryana Hristova, Prof. Valery Stefanov, Assoc. Prof. Georgy Lozanov and movie director Andrey Slabakov.
Evgenia Ivanova, winner of the VICK prize and recipient of BGN 10,000, will also receive a translation of the book into English. Elena Naydenova, VICK Foundation Manager, expressed her anticipation for the next Bulgarian Novel of the Year. more

23 June 2008, Vick Foundation announced the shortlist for the 2008 Bulgarian Novel of the Year. The announcement took place in the Central Military Club in Sofia.
The short-listed novels are:

Ambassadors for the Bulgarian Novel
Vick Prize 2008
A new initiative of the VICK Prize 2008 - Ambassadors for the Bulgarian Novel. Public figures with an interest in reading and a wish to increase interest in Bulgarian novels have been selected to promote the short-listed novels to a larger audience. They will share their thoughts on the short-listed novels with the media.
The 5 ambassadors are businessman Hristo Kovachki, Bulgarian Socialist Party MP Maya Manolova, footballer from Levski FC Nikolai Dimitrov, singer Galya from the Karizma duet and Miss Bulgaria 2001 Tanya Karabelova.
These 5 personalities have been entrusted with the mission to create further impetus for the promotion of Bulgarian literature. more

2008 VICK PRIZE JURY:
EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER, PROFESSORS AND A FILM DIRECTOR
The jury for the 2008 VICK Prize for the Bulgarian Novel of the Year is composed of a dynamic mix of personalities.
The jury for the novels is made of European Commissioner Ms. Meglena Kouneva – those acquainted with Ms. Kouneva will be aware of her extensive involvement with literature, Professor Boryana Hristova – head of the St. Cyril and Methodius National Library, a philologist and dedicated researcher of old Bulgarian literature, Professor Georgi Lozanov – a media expert and key figure in Bulgarian intellectual circles, Professor Valeri Stefanov – Dean of the Faculty of Slavic Studies at St. Kliment Ohridski Sofia University and last but not least the film director and actor Andrei Slabakov. more

On 30 May 2006 in the British Council Mrs Meglena Kuneva, Minister of
European Affairs presented the translation of the novel The Glass River to
Emil Andreev, the second winner of the Vick Book Prize. The English
translation of the novel was provided by EVS Translations, the main sponsor of the competition.

On 9 March 2006 at Downtown Hotel, the Vick Foundation announced the new panel of judges for the competition: Dimitar Tomov, Georgi Koritanov, Irina Varalinska and Petar Anastasov.
Traditionally, the fifth judge is the readers, who start voting after the nominees are announced in June. more

27 October 2005 Emil Andreev's Glass River bags Vick Prize for the best Bulgarian novel of 2005.
Emil Andreev's novel Glass River also won the Readers Award. more
The second Vick Prize winner was announced at an official ceremony in the Sheraton Hotel in Sofia.
Bulgarian Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov attended the ceremony. Other participants in the ceremony were Nikolai Stoyanov, this year's winner of the Balkanika Award, Dimitar Shumnaliev, Edward Vick, Chairman of the Vick Foundation and head of EVS Translations and Elena Skuleva-Naidenova - Manager of the Vick Foundation. more

On 24 November 2004 the Award Ceremony of the first competition was held in the National Art Gallery.
The first prize - BGL 10,000 and translation of the novel into English went to Stephan Kisyov for his novel The Executioner published by Janette 45 Publishing House. more
The novel Elada Pinio and Time by Kerana Angelova published by Izdatelsko atelie Ab Publishing House received the highest number of readers votes. The author won a cash prize of BGL 1000.
The award ceremony was attended by Stefan Danailov, Anton Donchev, Nikoka Kitsevski. Among the official guests were Philip Dimitrov, Prof. Andrei Pantev, Bozhana Dimitrova, Iglika Trifonova, Georgi Lozanov, Lyubomir Levchev, many publishers, diplomats and businessmen. more
